Arena Group create new look BMW PGA Championship
The Arena Group supported the PGA European Tour with varied temporary overlay solutions in presenting a newly designed Wentworth West Course to host the 2010 BMW PGA Championship.
This was the first of the seasons major UK golf events in a year that sees Arena Seating returning to supply the PGA European Tour with temporary seating grandstands, culminating in Octobers' PGA Ryder Cup. Arena Structures has maintained a long-term relationship with the PGA and was instrumental in securing a wider 3 year contract for the Arena Group that also included the provision of scaffolding (Arena Scaffolding) and furniture (Spaceworks).
Jamie Birkmyre, PGA director says:
"It’s been a delight having (Arena) Seating back on course, they've been a joy to deal with in all areas and are certainly a notch above (their competition). It certainly makes my job easier having the collective services from the Arena Group."
Using their state of the art GPS site survey system, Arena could map the topography of the new course layout with pinpoint accuracy for planning the position of temporary structures and have accurate measurements for engineering calculations. Bradley Merchant, Arena Seating project manager, oversaw the installation of spectator grandstands. He explains:
"We are delighted to be supplying the PGA tour once again. A prestigious tournament such as this demands the highest of standards and we worked closely with the organisers to meet their needs. The GPS system makes the design and installation a far more accurate and efficient process with regards to both time and money."
Arena Structures supplied players, public exhibition and media facilities as well as the main double decker BMW hospitality Suite on the 18th green, which was adjoined by Arena Seating’s grandstand, along with all other course seating and a skybox on the 16th hole.
Mark Shelley was Structures' project manager, overseeing an experienced team. They installed the exclusive BMW Suite, a stunning Arena Horizon double-decker adjacent to the changed layout of the much talked-about water feature on the redesigned 18th green. Arena also supplied a range of structures best suited as key elements in the public village and exhibition area, the media centre and players' facilities adjacent to the practice area where players and their families could relax.
Arena Structures managing director Grahame Muir says:
"We have invested this year in the new Horizon walling system for the single and double deck structures we installed across the course to support the PGA and BMW. All parties are keen to continually progress this World class event and our new panels create a more contemporary aesthetic whilst also incorporating more efficient temperature transfer properties."
