Arena Group begin 2010 Ryder Cup work at Celtic Manor

17 August 2010

The build up to The Ryder Cup has begun in earnest with the Arena Group starting the process of installing the temporary infrastructure at The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales.

Golf’s greatest team event will be the focus of the golfing world from 1st – 3rd October when Colin Montgomerie’s European Team try to regain The Ryder Cup at the expense of Corey Pavin’s United States side over the Twenty Ten Course.

Arena Seating have begun their build up to the event, with seating for 15,000 at multiple green and tee positions around the course, including a grandstand on the spectacular 18th green built to provide optimum angles for the best possible views of the action. Building on a sensitive site such as this requires careful planning and the use of state of the art equipment to ensure the course is not damaged in any way, as Arena Seating’s Project Manager Sam Feaviour explains:

“The course here at Celtic Manor is in the perfect condition and it is essential that we do not compromise this during the build by only transporting what is absolutely necessary around the site. Along with six months of detailed planning, we have used surveying technology available through GPS positioning to construct grandstands at each hole to an exact list of parts, avoiding any unnecessary equipment being moved around.”

In July, Arena Structures’ Project Manager James Thomas and the Ryder Cup organisers welcomed the first of over 300 lorry loads of essential equipment which will help to create the vital course infrastructure needed to host an event of the magnitude of The Ryder Cup. Sister company Spaceworks will be providing furniture for the structures.

Arena Scaffolding were the first on site to construct the sub-structures to support the facilities constructed over the undulating course. Arena Structures will begin work shortly on the prestigious triple-decker Harlech Suites 18th Hospitality Pavilion overlooking the 18th green alongside Arena’s double-decker Past Players lounge, an international media centre, which, combined with 60 supplementary course structures totals at a huge 16,500m² of temporary facilities.
